The Office of the Seniors Advocate is reviewing programs and services offered by the health authorities that support seniors and their family caregivers at home. As part of this review, we want to hear directly from caregivers about their experiences.

B.C. seniors are facing challenges in accessing publicly-funded long-term care due to long waitlists and increasing wait times. This places added pressure on family caregivers, who are supporting their loved ones at home for longer than ever before.

To better understand these challenges, we are holding five regional focus groups to gather feedback from unpaid, informal caregivers (usually a family member or close friend) who are supporting a senior at home. These discussions will focus on the following services offered by B.C.’s regional health authorities:

  • Adult Day Programs
  • Respite Services (in-home or facility-based)
  • Choice in Supports for Independent Living (CSIL)

Who Can Participate:

Please apply if you are an informal family caregiver of a senior who has used any of the services above within the past two years.

Focus Group Details:

  • Group Size: 10–12 participants per session
  • Duration: One 2-hour session
  • Format: Online via Zoom
  • Requirements: Access to a private space and a device with video and audio (such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone)

The information gathered from these focus groups will be summarized and used to identify common themes. These findings will help inform recommendations to the government as part of this review.

Identity of participants will not be shared with the public or with health authorities.
