As we move into April, we’re pleased to share highlights from our latest report, Monitoring Seniors Services 2025, recognize the dedication of family caregivers, celebrate senior volunteers during National Volunteer Week and mark Advance Care Planning Day, a reminder to plan for future healthcare wishes.

This year marks the eleventh edition of our Monitoring Seniors Services report and I’m pleased that we now have over a decade of data to track trends, measure progress and identify areas where action is still needed. It is also important to acknowledge that seniors in B.C. are living longer and healthier lives than ever before, continuing to make meaningful contributions to their families and communities.

This year’s report highlights growing pressures on key services such as surgeries, long-term care and subsidized housing. While people are living longer, many are also waiting longer for the supports they need. I encourage you to explore the report and share it with others.

April is also a time to celebrate the important role seniors play as volunteers in communities across the province. Their time, skills and experience strengthen the social fabric of B.C. and improve the lives of their community members.

I also want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of family caregivers. Many are experiencing increasing stress due to limited supports and a shortage of long-term care options. It is essential that we continue to recognize their contributions and ensure they have access to the resources and respite they need.

Finally, April 7 marks Advance Care Planning Day. Taking time to discuss your future healthcare wishes with loved ones and care providers can provide peace of mind and help ensure your preferences are respected.

As always, I’d like to thank you for your continued engagement and support for the work of my office.

Sincerely,

Dan Levitt
