January 2026 Message from the Seniors Advocate
The start of a new year is a chance to pause, reflect, and look ahead. For many seniors, it’s a time to focus on health, independence, and staying connected with family, friends and community. It’s also an important time to learn more about resources and programs available to support for older adults.
If you or a loved one have questions or concerns about seniors’ services in B.C., the OSA Information and Referral Line is a valuable resource. Our team provides practical assistance to help seniors and caregivers navigate systems, resolve issues and connect with supports. Calls to the line also help strengthen OSA’s understanding of challenges that older adults are facing across B.C.
In 2026, my office will continue work on several new initiatives and reports focused on issues that matter most to seniors. We will also continue engagement across the province, including visits to communities and opportunities to hear directly from older adults, their families and others who support them.
A key part of our work is meeting directly with seniors to hear about their concerns and challenges. Speaking engagements are being scheduled in areas of the province I have not yet had the opportunity to visit, and I welcome invitations to meet with community organizations, service providers, and seniors’ groups.
This January, I encourage British Columbians to start the year by challenging persistent myths about ageing. Our new release, 5 Myths About Ageing, highlights common stereotypes and the facts that disprove them. Addressing age discrimination starts with awareness and recognizing the important contributions seniors make to families, communities and workplaces.
As we step into the new year, let’s encourage connection, knowledge and awareness. Sharing experiences and learning about available supports helps build a more inclusive, supportive province for all seniors.
Sincerely,

Dan Levitt
